Emergency Interstate Deployment for Structural Collapse & Asbestos Contamination

Client: Confidential
Location: Interstate (specific location withheld for privacy)
Project Duration: April-December 2024

In April 2024, MRA Roofing & Construction was urgently deployed interstate following the sudden collapse of a roofing structure caused by severely corroded purlins. The situation was further complicated by asbestos contamination, requiring immediate and specialised intervention to ensure worker safety and structural stabilisation. This case study highlights our team's rapid response, technical expertise, and commitment to safety and compliance throughout the project.

Stage 1: Emergency Response & Make Safe (April-July)

Scope of Work:
Our team mobilised immediately, flying in to conduct emergency make-safe operations. Upon arrival, we established a site exclusion zone due to the presence of asbestos contamination and conducted a full site inspection with photographic documentation. A detailed quote for critical structural remediation was issued to the client.

Key Deliverables:

  • Asbestos Removal: Safely removed 1,200 sqm of asbestos roof sheeting.
  • Structural Repairs: Removed 1,200 LM of corroded purlins and safety wire.
  • Steel Reinforcement: Welded and reinforced steel compromised by industrial vapours and environmental exposure.

Duration: 5 weeks

Safety & Compliance Measures:

  • Conducted daily Safe Work Method Statements (SWMS) and toolbox talks.
  • Performed “Take 5” risk assessments and issued dangerous task job cards.
  • Secured hot works permits for grinders and welding activities.

Stage 2: Extended Scope (Late July)

Client Request:
Following the successful completion of Stage 1, the client requested an additional section of the roof to be added to the scope of work. To minimise delays, our team remained on-site to complete the additional work without demobilisation.

Duration: Approximately 2 weeks

Stage 3: Final Expansion (November-December)

Final Phase:
In the final quarter of 2024, the client demonstrated their trust in MRA Roofing & Construction by requesting further works. Our team completed these additional tasks seamlessly, ensuring operational continuity and long-term client satisfaction.
